I’m so fascinated by this topic, which I don’t see written about often, especially as a memoir. The writing pulled me in immediately. It reads like fiction so far, in a positive way. It feels very narrative driven, which I enjoy in my nonfiction reads. The preview didn’t really get into the life as a military wife yet but as someone who has extended family in the military, I’m very curious to see where this goes and to read her story.

I’m also very intrigued by the early praise it has gotten and knowing that it will also be a Book of the Month selection. The preview itself was interesting but I’m always easily swayed by reviews and awards so seeing this recognition gives me additional hope that this will be a moving and fascinating read.

I appreciated the candor of her including that she said “I would leave you” when her husband first expressed interest in the military. It’s refreshing to me to see this honesty, which feels more authentic to me. It lets me know she’s not going to hold back or sugar coat anything in the memoir.
