About six and a half years ago, I got a call from my son telling me he’d joined the army. I was the last to know because he knew I’d be upset or worried or something. I’ve worried about him a lot, but mostly I’m just proud of him. Here’s the thing, though…. I’m just a mom of a guy who hasn’t been deployed into a war zone. I simply can’t imagine being a wife, pregnant, and on the other side of the world from the man I love.
Simone gives an intimate look at what it’s like to be a military wife. The sisterhood of women who most likely wouldn’t have come together under any other circumstances was moving and hit me in a way I didn’t expect. Simone is a gifted writer and her story is a beautifully written page turner. I loved reading about her experiences with the other women left behind and how they forms a cohesive group despite very different backgrounds and became like family.
