The Wives is a captivating memoir detailing the military wife life and experiences by Simone Gorrindo. Gorrindo not only details an intimate personal count of what life is like on the military base and the tight-knit friendships that develop, but she also takes us on her journey of leaving her New York City career to follow her enlisted husband.
As her husband is frequently deployed, Gorrindo is left solo to tread through this new, unfamiliar life. The details in which she describes her intimate feelings and the wit and humor of her writing is addictive. Reading this memoir is like being a fly on the wall of her relationships, routines, and experiences.
Though it was difficult at times to relate to the things that upset her, and how hard the not-knowing must feel, you genuinely feel for Gorrindo and appreciate the bond that military wives must have. It is almost like a secret club of women who supported their husband's endeavors to enlist and are now raising their families solo.
I truly appreciated the first-hand look at the support system that backs the military men who risk so much for this country. Poignant, and beautifully written!
