Thank-you Bookishfist for the advanced copy of The Wives by Simone Gorrindo in return for an honest review.

In The Wives, a memoir, Gorrindo provides the reader with a glimpse into the lives of military spouses. Gorrindo did not want the military life, but her husband did. The author found herself recently married, uprooted from NYC and replanted in Columbus, Georgia. Alone frequently due to her husband’s deployments, Gerrindo learns to navigate her new life, and becomes part of a, and relies upon, a community of army wives that support one another, dispelling her preconceived misconceptions. Army wives are unsung heroes. They support their soldier husbands with personal sacrifice to themselves and their families, without recognition, or the expectation of any. It is a life they choose, but not without struggles. The comfort that the army wives provide to one another is at the heart of this memoir and is inspiring.
