This memoir took me into a world I know little about, that of the wives of members of active duty armed services members. The author, Simone Gorrindo, is married to someone who belongs to an elite, highly trained unit. At the time much of the memoir takes place, women were not allowed to join this unit, although that changes late in the book. The unit members are deployed several times a year and sent off for weeks at a time for additional training. The wives have to cope not just with the daily demands of running a household and often caring for young children, but also their fears of what their husbands are facing and the secrecy that surrounds much of what the unit does. The wives form a tight bond to support one another, even when it seems they have little in common other than immediate circumstances. The writing is stellar and kept me reading. Well worth the time spent spent reading.

I received a copy of this book from Bookish First in return for an honest review.
