The First Look of The Wives: A Memoir by Simone Gorrindo is a first-hand accounting of a new army wife. Army wives are the unsung heroes of war. Simone Gorrindo had been with her boyfriend Andrew for four years when he had a calling to become a soldier. Although Simone threatened to leave him if he joined the military, her love for him was stronger than her fear. They were married and moved to rundown military housing in Columbus, Georgia where she met her neighbor, another army wife, Rachel. Though her enthusiasm upon their arrival was off-putting, I’m guessing Rachel will become part of Simone’s support system, particularly when their husbands are deployed. I am sure that the community of military spouses help one another, especially during periods of loneliness and isolation, and that Simone will do the same for them. I am hoping the book will be about women helping each other through the good and the bad, the joys and the sorrows of military life. I look forward to reading more.
