This book begins with two narrators. One is the divorced wife, Vanessa, who can't get over her ex-husband, Richard. Richard has moved on with a younger woman, Nellie.
Nellie teaches pre-school and is written in the first four chapters as a beautiful, young innocent who might have something to hide about her upbringing in Florida. Vanessa lost property, wealth, and social standing when Richard divorces her, and she's beginning to resume a drinking problem. Not much is initially written about Richard, but I'm wondering if there are control issues or a lack of empathy to those he should hold dear in his life.
I'm interested to know more about all three of the characters. It feels as though there are deep under currents of messed up lives and psychological damage.
