I have heard so much about this writing duo and was very much looking forward to picking up this book. Unfortunately, as much as I feel the publisher’s blurb gives away (why would you tell me half of the first twist before I even start reading?), even the “big surprises” of this book didn’t feel surprising to me. It’s a struggle to get through any thriller if all of the characters are unlikable with one exception in Aunt Charlotte, and hard to feel Invested in the character’s journey if you simply don’t care which way the story turns. I found much of this book unrealistic and unbelievable, which was really disappointing. I feel as though other authors in the genre have told a somewhat similar story, but have done it better. 2.5 stars
