The author, Greer Hendricks, has done a nice job in the first chapters of developing intriguing characters. The wife and girlfriend are explored in alternating chapters. The wife is reeling from her divorce and drinking seems to be an ongoing problem. Will it lead to violence? The girlfriend is already easily frightened due to an unexplained incident that happened in college. Will her fears lead to paranoia? And what about the ex/boyfriend, isn’t he too good to be real?
So many recent books have withheld too much information in an effort to provide later shocks. While I’m sure there will be surprises in this story, I’m not entering the main body of work so confused that I won’t enjoy the ride.
