I just couldn't get into this book. Usually with suspenseful books I'm constantly trying to guess the ending (or even just the next parts of the scene) but I couldn't even bring myself to do that.

It's nothing to do with the writing or the characters - they were believable and human and very complicated. Though I think the revelations of the ending all came a little too quickly, like an avalanche of explanations and odd reveals.

Perhaps it was that we start the story with one character "looking back" in a way that was almost neutral. We were kept at a narrative distance despite being firmly lodged in our protagonists' head, which made it even more difficult to root for anyone. Plus, the characters seemed unwilling to fight for themselves, instead taking a passive role in their own story, which I personally am not fond of.
