I picked up The Wife Between Us because I read An Anonymous Girl two days ago and I was interested to see what the hype was about. I didn’t like An Anonymous Girl. I gave it 3 stars, basically just for the cool premise. But enough about that book, this book was great.

One of the things I like in a thriller book, I’ve said this before, is the surprising aspect of it. I want to be surprised. I don’t want to be able to guess where the story is going to go. I am very happy with my read of this book. I read this all in one sitting and I felt myself getting irritated when I got distracted, which is a sure sign that I was into it.

So let’s get into my likes and dislikes:

What I liked:

I liked the jarring feeling of being confused. Some people don’t like that but I was really excited because it messed with me and told me that I didn’t know what I was reading. I didn’t. It was great. Another thing that I liked was the way the authors pulled from the reader all the perceptions that you would think of and turned them on its head. I also appreciated the detailing and foreshadowing that littered the book because it didn’t feel like they were putting in unnecessary details. It felt like the scales were falling off of my eyes and by the end of the book, I was just exhausted because my brain worked so much!

Reading this book after An Anonymous Girl was a good choice because I would have had higher expectations for that book because this one was so good. I do hope that this book wasn’t a one-off. When I say one-off, I hope this book was great and the next book that comes out (I’m looking at you An Anonymous Girl) are not lackluster.

I’ll continue to pick up books from these authors.
