Dangerous obsessions

It's always disappointing when a female-centric novel fails to pass the Bechdel or Mako Mori test. Although The Wife Between Us is predominantly focused on one woman's obsession with another, there is always this undercurrent of strong emotions (Love? Envy? Fear? Something more?) towards the ex-husband/fiance that drives the narrative. The novel also falls into the same pitfalls as The Girl on the Train, in which the reader must rely on an unreliable, alcoholic narrator to try to piece together the mystery of what is happening in the story. To avoid spoilers, I'll just say that the plot twist felt fairly predictable, and I was able to figure it out early on in the story. This was a much-hyped book that failed to live up to expectations.
