Imagine the tallest, fastest, curviest and scariest roller coaster ride you've ever been on. As the coaster slowly climbs to the top of the highest peak you hold on tight thinking you're prepared for the wild decent that is surely to come, when suddenly the ride reverses course and speeds back in the direction you started from. That's what reading The Wife Between Us is like. You may think you've got the story figured out and know the direction it's heading when the plot takes a turn you never saw coming. The use of alternating narrators is a fairly common tactic, but The Wife Between Us wins the prize for the cleverest "she said/she said" in history (along with its tantalizingly twisty title). You will re-read the first third of the book trying to figure out how you missed it. The plot drags in a little in the middle-it would be almost impossible not to after the shock it delivers-but then ends with several even bigger surprises. The Wife Betweens Us puts the "psyche" in "psychological thriller" in a way that few can top and should be one of the most buzzed about books of 2018.
