The Whisper Man by Alex North is a perfect horror novel. It encompasses all the elements of a good scary story: creepy locations, an unsolved kidnapping, imaginary friends who seem more real than they should. The writing is very engaging with terrifying moments throughout the story. It is told with alternating voices and short chapters that keep the pacing fast and smooth. The characters are all well-written with the focus of the story being on father and son relationships. So many of the settings were creepy and I found myself very scared throughout most of the book. I liked having the crime portion of the book as well. I am usually trying to find a good suspenseful novel and so many of them fall short of my expectations, but this one did not. It truly scared me, which is saying a lot. I would recommend The Whisper Man to anyone who enjoys a good scare while reading.
