Do you ever feel like thrillers end up being the same or that they seem to follow a certain path across the board with no real unique outcome? I know this book received a lot of really good reviews and I can see why. For starters, it's a fast read, climatic, heartfelt and has some imaginary friends that may not really be imaginary. Cue the atmospheric creepy flowing into that portion. However, I was more intrigued and captivated by Jake than any of the other characters by the time I finished. I hate admitting this but I realized by the end of the novel that if it wasn't for his character I would've rated this book a 2 and listed it among predictable thrillers. Don't get me wrong I was thoroughly creeped at the creaks my home made while reading his portions in bed at night; I just wasn't as thrilled for the other characters like I was for Jake's. I would still recommend for those who enjoy a paranormal type thriller.
