I liked the characters of Tom and Jake but, it took too long to get there. I would have liked to get to know the family of 3 before the mother died. By the time I finally got to care about them, the story was almost over. The whisper man part also could have been developed better with more about the 'before' and the childhood incidents. I did like that there was a bit of a love story beginning with Adam's mom, but that didn't seem to get very far, I would have liked the author to explore that more since Tom was such a likeable character. If the author wasn't going to try and make the read think that maybe Tom had something to do with his wife's death (not a spoiler, promise), then delving deeper into their married life would have been nice.
