This book has had a lot of hype over the last few months. Overall, I feel the hype is mostly warranted. This is a slow burning thriller that is advertised as being a horror book. I felt it was more creepy than scary. It was still a page turner for sure. I did figure out who the suspect was early on but it was still an enjoyable read. The dynamics between Jake and his father were extremely realistic and heartwrenching at times. I could sympathize with both characters in trying to make a life without their mother/wife. One small, annoying complaint I have is the research behind age appropriateness in regards to Jake's schooling. I don't know any 7 year old classrooms that learn multiplication. Again, it's a petty complaint but annoyed me since I am an educator. This really is a great book though so I recommend reading it!
