I don't like crime fiction or stories narrated by detectives. Until now. The Whisper Man is such a well conceived novel with interconnecting elements and characters with serious depth. I would 100% classify the beginning of this book as horror and I had to stop reading one the sun went down while relying on my much too friendly dog to protect me. The second half of the book is much more chilling and spooky than it is terrifying and I would say it transfers into more of a thriller/mystery crime fiction book. Nonetheless, I enjoyed every page and was in awe of the spectacular writing of Alex North. Really a phenomenal read that goes beyond a thriller, and delves into the importance of father/son relationships and bonds.
