A Decent Thriller

I found this book hard to get into. I wasn't a huge fan of any of the characters. They all felt pretty dark, dreary and slightly pessimistic. The characters were all dealing with various forms of trauma and stress but I still struggled to accept and feel comfortable with their constant internal monologues along the lines of "you're worthless," "you're a failure as a father," "you're useless, just take a drink already." It may have been realistic for what they were going through, but I just couldn't get into it.

The book picked up after the first third, but still not enough for me to truly appreciate much about it. It was moderately enjoyable but definitely not a thriller I'd go around recommending to all my friends. I didn't feel that things tied together as seamlessly as I would have hoped.

Last thing, I question some of the dad's choices in this book when there is clearly suspect shit going on. That feels like a weird note to end on, but there you have it!
