The first chapter opens up with what seems to be a letter from the main character to his son about how he failed to warn him that monster's were real. Only, he means human monsters instead of the ones in children's imaginations. Immediately after this first page I was hooked, if this is a flash forward to the end? What does this mean for this character's son?! Is he still missing or confirmed to be a victim of this human monster?! I NEEDED to know, so I kept reading this excerpt and found myself falling more and more into the spell that Alex North has created. Alas, at the end of the excerpt I found myself wanting more. From what I can tell, he is writing from multiple perspectives, which in the end gives parallel story lines where the reader tends to know more than each of the characters. For mystery readers, we know this is a suspense building mechanism, and with this plot I'm so into it.
