Thanks to Berkley Publishing for sending an early review copy of The Wedding Date by Jasmine Guillory in exchange for my honest opinion. After reading several psychological thrillers last month, I was ready for something lighter and this was the perfect contemporary romance. Attorney Alex Monroe gets stuck in the elevator at her sister’s hotel and by the time the elevator starts working again, she’s got a date to a wedding with the other occupant of the elevator. Her date is hunky pediatrician Drew and the wedding is that of his ex and one of his friends. They have a blast and a whirlwind romance begins. Drew has a horrible track record with women however, breaking up with them gently after two months, so things get rocky at the two month point in their relationship. The story was predictable and the romance scenes a little too frequent. Things I liked about the story were the strong, smart professional women. I also appreciated that Alex is black (Drew is white - hence the cover art) and there was a side story of white privilege and a project Alex was backing that rescued at-risk teens. It was a sweet love story and perfect for my current mood. Releases February 6th!
