Ok, so not every prince charming rides in on a white horse...sometimes you find him in very unexpected places. That's what happens to Alexa when she becomes stuck in a hotel elevator with the hot and handsome Drew. Alexa is at the hotel to celebrate her sister's promotion to partner at her law firm-Drew is there to attend his ex girlfriend's wedding. To make matters worse for Drew, his date for the wedding had to cancel at the last minute. When the elevator stops between floors Alexa and Drew have a half hour flirt fest that leads to Drew asking Alexa to attend the wedding with him. Neither expects anything to come of it, but by the end of the wedding weekend both Drew & Alexa are smitten. Even though Drew admits he's not the relationship type, and the distance between them (Alexa lives in Berkeley, Drew in LA) makes getting together difficult, Alexa agrees to meet Drew in LA the following weekend. There's nothing really new or unique about The Wedding Date, but it's such a sweet and charming story you don't mind that it's been told before. There is a sub plot regarding race relations (both interpersonal and in general) that is handled deftly and honestly without weighing the book down. Jasmine Guillory keeps the narrative flowing smoothly even when Alexa and Drew hit the inevitable bumps in the road. The Wedding Date is a short and breezy novel that you can read in a day-but you'll still be smiling long after you finish it.
