The Wedding Date is a breath of fresh air - a welcome bit of color in what is largely a whitewashed world. Jasmine Guillory manages to add a wonderful bit of diversity and social commentary without it being preachy or condescending. From Drew and Alexa's meet cute, their embracing their mutual attraction and making the most of it, to them navigating the difficulties of a long distance relationship - their romance was deeply rooted in realness. Add to that the complexities of an interracial relationship, the very real insecurities that Alexa feels and deals with, and Drew's reticence to commit in a real way and this was probably one of the realest tales of romance and relationships in this modern age that I've read in a while. While I do wish that we had gotten to know more about the characters backgrounds, I still really enjoyed this book and had to buy a finished copy once I completed the ARC that I won. I also preordered the authors next book as it features one of the side characters from The Wedding Date and I really want to see what happens with him, plus the synopsis sounds really fun!
