"The Wedding Date" by Jasmine Guillory, what can I say but it was amazing! I loved the first person narrative, I truly feel that helped sculpt the characters along with their back stories. The story begins with a bad luck type situation for the main female character Alexa. She goes to visit her sister Olivia, who flew in from New York to the Fairmont hotel in San Francisco. She gets into the elevator, totally distracted by her phone...the doors close, begins to move, then "BAM it stops...never taking in that a man had been in there. That is where we meet Drew! He too has some bad-luck going on. No date for this wedding of his ex-Gf and ex-Bff...where he agreed to be a groomsman nonetheless! They bond over cheese and crackers while in this elevator, it's quite charming! He feels kind of funny asking but he asks Alexa to accompany him to this dreadful wedding he's gotten himself into.
I truly enjoyed the character Alexa, she's a person that a reader can relate to! She's a curvy, successful, smart, self conscious, emotional etc woman who really was just so afraid to let it all go to the wind at times. Always tried her best to follow the rules kinda gal. Her friend Maddie is her extra ompf over the edge, her encouragement to "Not over think" things. A few times I was telling myself while reading, "Thank goodness for Maddie, go get em girl" and you will too!
Drew, oh he's a hottie! Doctor, bachelor, a killer smile and rocking body! All well and good, except he's not all that great with the ladies. In his perspective he may say he is though. In this story I think he is a character who finds himself while being with Alexa! She's not his typical type, he's not a girlfriend kind of guy. But Alexa is different for him!
All in all this book is a book I would recommend to my friends and family, even a stranger in the library. The author does a really great job bringing you into the story, it's like you're right there with Alexa, Drew and friends!
