Ava Simon is an engineer with neurotypical tendencies, who has suffered major loss in her life. She has structured her life since that point around that loss, which has kept her isolated right up until she meets Mat Putnam, her new Marketing boss. Mat is her opposite: exuberant, loved by all, focused on the big picture. A relationship starts to bloom, but something seems off. As Ava starts to look at her future with more optimism and flexibility, things about Mat start to send up red flags.

Well. This was unexpected. I truly did not know what I was getting into with this book! During the first few chapters, I thought I was reading a romance between a neurotypical engineer and the opposite, but there was this small niggle in my mind that something seemed off. The further you get into the book, the more you are narrowing your eyes, considering whether everything is as good as it seems. I was riveted throughout the last half, because Ava's perspective made you firmly believe in everything she was seeing, despite knowing something was off. I was a little disappointed by the end of the book. I wanted a whole other chapter of what was going on with Mat and what happened with him, along with the full story of the Vandals. It was a very quick sign-off, and I think the rest of the build up and tension deserved better.
