I really appreciate the queer representation in this book because that is something that isn't really common still. That being said, there was a lot in this book that I didn't expect. It didn't follow the tone that was initially set, but that isn't really a bad thing because it allowed the story to follow a particularly twisting path and explore a lot of themes such as trust, grief, love, betrayal, and something that I didn't expect (this may be a potential spoiler) stalking. The characters initial impressions on the reader are a bit deceiving but in a good way, because the character arcs in this book are possibly some of the best I have ever read. Characters that I initially brushed off as unimportant ended up contributing a lot more to the plot than I had expected them to. I think that the cover is also really beautiful in a simple way which is really representative of the character Ava.
