I saw this compared to Eleanor Oliphant Is Completely Fine, and while I didn't really enjoy that novel, I still thought this one sounded unique and interesting. However, I don't like the trend of using protagonists who seem to be on the autism spectrum (though autism is never mentioned), where autism is used as a "tool" or short-cut to make the character(s) seem quirky and intriguing. It feels cheap to use a medical diagnosis as a basis for a character.
