This is the first book I read by this particular author and I was completely drawn into the story and how vivid it was a described. While reading this novel, it reminded me of the 'Waterworld' show at Universal Studios Hollywood, in which the setting takes place in a world where land is a rare commodity, but in this world, a technology that allows for people to be brought back from the dead, has been developed. Our main character, Tempe, is a scavenger in search for items that can be sold for Notes, which she can use to pay for her sister's revival, because her sister knows the answer to what happened that caused their parent's deaths. As the story progresses, we learn that there is a much deeper cost than just the amount of notes paid in order to revive a person. This cost will have readers questioning what is the moral decision to do. I loved this aspect of the story because I kept wondering, what would be right thing to do? Is a sacrifice truly worth a life, even if that sacrifice could have a life altering impact?
