The Vanishing Deep by Astrid Scholte, is a YA sci-fy novel that follows our main character Tempe as she tries to learn how her older sister was murdered, by scientifically resurrects her with the sue of developed technology. But at the cost of her life savings, and her sister running away with the fear that she will die once again.
Like most YA novels, The Vanishing Deep had a naïve and overly annoying female protagonist that doesn't quite understand the consequences of her actions. Much to the point that the love interest, has to get involved. With his own mysterious backstory in the balance as well.
I highly enjoyed Scholte's other novel, Four Dead Queens, and was highly anticipating this one. But was overall let down by the messy plot and underdeveloped characters that served no real purpose but to show face. Here's to hoping whatever Scholte writes next will be better.
