This novel is set in a post apocalyptic Earth after humanity has flooded the planet. Tempest is one of the inhabitants of this water world and her only ambition at the outset of the book is earn enough money to pay to have her sister revived— brought back from the dead. Once Elysea is revived Tempest and she embark on a voyage to find out what happened to their parents who were believed to have died 5 years previously. Along the way they meet Lor, the son of the director of the revival program, and learn why he has been hiding from the world for two years. There are also pirates and quite a lot of drumming, drinking and dancing.
I say that this book was like birthday cake because it was good enough but not complex. There are only minor impediments to the protagonists’ progress and while there is loss, it is loss that seems, if not inevitable, then appropriate.
