I loved it. I couldn't put it down. I read it in 2 days. The story had all of the elements I loved in other stories I've read lately like Caraval, The Cruel Prince, The Wicked Deep, and Crown of Coral and Pearl.
There were different sections of people living in different places with there own ways of living.
The two main characters are Tempest and Lor. Tempest, Tempe to her family, lives in a place called the Equinox. It is a floating island made of metal from the Old World, our current world but 500 years in the future.
According to the plot the Great Waves came and washed away everything. Only land masses higher than the final sea level that emerged survived and those islands are the only ones inhabited by people.
The Equinox has rules and regulations everyone has to follow because it is a man made metal island. There are weight restrictions and other rules everyone has to follow. These rules have been established by the nearby island of Palindromena.
Palindromena is where Lor lives. This is where everyone's body is taken when they die. Loved ones can pay 3000 notes and revive a loved one for 24 hours.
Tempe and Lor meet when Tempe arranges for her sister Elysea to revived. Lor acts as Elysea's Warden and helps the sisters out.
Things don't go as planned and the girls go on an adventure. I won't say what happens but as the book progresses certain info comes to light, secrets are revealed and the book has a great ending.
I'm going to quote my favorite lines from this 400+ book. I think that they are words to live by.
You have to hold onto every moment. Breathe every breath. For you never know when it will be your last.
