A beautiful look at grief

I loved this idea for a book. It was sci-fi enough to pique my interest, I had so many hopes for this. Being revived for 24 hours - how? Why? what happens after? What kind of world is this?

Being a futuristic world, with the old lands being washed away by floods, people are surviving on handmade reefs with land being very sparse. There were things so different from what I see as normal, but also the same. People still having to figure out how to not overuse, how to survive, and dealing with human emotions.

The book was very heavy on emotional side. The main theme being dealing with loss and grief. How do you say goodbye to a loved one if you get a chance? What do you say, what do you hope they say? What if you got a chance to live for one more day, what would you do? All very heavy and important questions to explore. It was a bit meek for me. It seemed like the same questions kept being asked over and over again. The other things happening in the story line seemed to kind of take a back seat while everyone was reeling over their emotions of what is happening and why.

I would have loved to see a lot more of the world, and different reefs. How other "islands" are surviving. Even more of the under water worlds. Also, it could have been better explained how the revival worked, or regeneration? I still don't really understand one part with the regeneration.

Overall a fast read, with kind of slow moving characters. They weren't very memorable. Only Tempe felt fierce for me and everyone else seemed to just kind of float around her. The book wont stick with me and would probably suit a younger audience who needs to deal with grief and letting go.
