What an extraordinary book about family, war, tragic loss, crime, and drug addiction. Honestly, didn’t realize when I started this how I would be sucked right into this book. This is the first book I have read by John Hart and I was blown away. I loved all the different perspectives, and from the beginning to the end I was so nervous about what would happen.

This follows Jason French who has served in the war, and since being home has gotten into drugs and been in jail. His younger brother Gibby lost his older brother Robert in war and doesn’t want to lose Jason either. When Jason is put in jail for suspected murder, Gibby knows he has to help solve this case because he knows his brother wouldn’t do that. This was such a riveting crime story that had so much more than just crime. We see what happened to Jason in war and how even though their family is a wreck, they still have each other’s back.

I can’t begin to explain how much I really enjoyed this story; it was fast paced and while there were many perspectives, the plot flowed very easily and you could keep up with the story. The characters themselves were very developed and I felt as though I connected to them all. This book was raw and at moments I had to put the book down just to catch my breath. I can’t wait to read more of the author’s books.
