3.5 stars. This was a slow burn and in the first 1/4 of the book I almost quit. But it does pick up and the last 1/4 of the book I didn't want to put it down. Gibby was the most obtuse 18 year old character ever and by the end I honestly didn't care if he lived or died because he was just so damn dumb sometimes. And his mother, don't even get me started. I know she lost a son but jeez....she was so annoying and weak and ugh.

However, other characters made up for them. Jason, Bill, and Mr. X were complicated characters and they kept me invested in the book. I am sure what happened to Jason in the book happens in real life and more often than we would like to believe. He was the character that I had the most empathy for and really wanted to see him get some sort of justice for himself, but that would probably not have been realistic. Even Chance was a good character, he would have been within his rights to dump Gibby as a friend.
