I do not really read a lot of historical fiction, unless that is when the book was published. I saw this and read the summary and saw that it got good reviews so i thought i would give it a try. I am glad that i did. Being in my 40's and remembering some of the 70's but the time period is still with me in memory. So reading a crime/thriller from 1972 was quite refreshing. There were no cell phones and you had to scramble to find a phone to call someone and very low tech technology. Back then they had to do it the hard way.

But this also involved the Vietnam war and it's impact on the country, the soldiers, and their families. So when Jason is made a suspect and arrested it brings all these issues to the surface. It's not just a great thriller but it also incorporates family values and what a parent will and will not do to understand what their child went through during their military duty. It brings home how a war like this can change a person. This book was a great read with it's suspense and also with its social commentary on the impact of war but also how we treat the returning soldiers when they are trying to get back to a normal civilian life.
