I won this book through Bookish First and was so excited to get to read it early! The suspense held me the whole way through. I love the complexity of the characters and how it reflects the complexities of people in real life. Gibby, Bill, Jason, and even X and Reece.... I learned more and more about who they are through the novel as they acted and reacted to the things happening around them and in their own minds. I was able to grow right along with Gibby as he changed from the compliant boy that he was, into a passionate young man who was loyal to his family and willing to risk everything for what he believed was right.
The ending was a surprise to the very last page. All the way through I could feel the suspense, the loyalty, the passion, the psychological intensity... It was exactly what I would expect from John Hart, and I loved it!
