This was a new author to me and I wasn't really sure what to expect. While the subject was not one I thought I'd be interested in (man gets out of prison, the struggles and obstacles he faces as he tries to fit back into the outside world, issues with family), this book was one I could not put down. In fact, I really liked the family/sibling struggles elements of the story and found it very relatable. The characters, along with the family dynamic and the well-developed back stories created a well-told story from start to finish.
The writing style was direct and to the point. There were no extra flowery descriptions or fancy words thrown in just for the sake of "dressing it up". There were some secondary characters, who were less developed and interesting but important just the same for the overall telling of the story. I look forward to reading more by this author.
