This book is a suspense filled novel about how war can plant itself into someone’s soul and lead them down a path of no return. It is about family, loss, and coming of age. The villain was comparable to Hannibal Lector in his sinister, violent nature, and yet he has explanations for every move he makes. The development of all the characters was complex and created feelings of protectiveness and rage when the book reached is plot climax. The suspense behind the reasons for the villain’s decisions was so gripping that it was easy to keep turning, page after page.

The writing was smooth and descriptive without being too wordy or drawn out. The relationships between the characters is warm and at times heartbreaking. Each character having their own diverse world and reasons for their actions led to everyone being brought together in several plot twists. I loved this book in all it’s intensity.
