Well I finished another John Hart book. First of all I need to say that Hart is one of my favorite authors. I love his writing style and how he keeps the reader engaged in the story. The first book I read by this author was The Last Child and it was fantastic! The Unwilling has its pros and cons. Pros: an intense story with down-to-earth characters especially the two teenage boys and the police father of Gibby. Cons: although the story was very intense I thought it was brutally graphic. Too many beatings, guttings, and torture which lead me to put down the book and take a deep breath. The story centers around Jason who returns from Vietnam a broken and hardened man. Unfortunately for Jason he finds himself in prison again facing his nemesis X. Jason’s parents have disowned him as they drown their sorrows in the death of another son who died in Vietnam. The third son, Gibby, has faith in his convict brother and believes he is innocent. So the stage is set for revenge. The story has many layers and is complicated. Not my favorite Hart book but I’m still a big fan!
