During the height of the Vietnam War, The Unwilling by John Hart, is a thriller, coming-of-age story, and family drama, all rolled into one beautiful story.

With one son, Robert, killed in battle, a second son, Jason, apparently lost to the horrors of war, Gibby French is the last hope or the French family. At least, to his mother. Their father, on the other hand, wants nothing more than for his family to he as whole as they'll ever be. When Jason returns home from a stint in prison, the French's small, quasi-perfect world is upturned.

An unspeakable murder rocks the community and puts a target on the back of oldest brother, Jason. With his sharp personality, 29 confirmed kills in war, and his recent prison time, he's the only suspect. But that's just on the surface..

This book is amazing. The story is gripping and the characters are complex and deep. While a coming-of-age story seemingly has no place in a thriller, this book proves that thought incredibly wrong. I would read an entire series of this story, it is so good!
