I have never gotten an advance copy of a novel before. This is an experience that I hope isn't the first and only time.

Let me say, first, I have read all of John Hart's novels and have always enjoyed them. The Unwilling is unlike any of his other books, in some ways, and similar in others.

Similarities include characters that have flaws but natural moral compass. There is usually a hero and a tortured soul.

This novel had heartwarming family, friend, and tender moments, gripping and violent actions, innocent and dangerous characters. The fast paced story with a heinous crime and graphic detail was riveting and disturbing. I could not put this book down.

I wish I could have finished it in one sitting! I felt connected to the young characters and their innocence. This connection made the violence in the story much more difficult to bear. I also felt the father and son relationships were beautifully written. One son tainted by war and the other an innocent young man. The struggles that the family went through and the truths revealed made this novel a one of a kind read.

John Hart has delved into the violence of war, family ties, strong friendships, greed, and into the minds of murderous psychopaths.

Quite a story and I hated for it to end. I only wish things had been wrapped up better in the end. Who doesn't love a happy ending? I wanted to see Gibby and Becky reunited.

Thanks for the advance copy!
