This story brings me back to the time of the Vietnam war, when my friends and family had to sign up for the draft and those that went to war came back so changed........or didn’t come back at all. After losing a brother in the war Jason French overheard his mother say she wishes it were him instead. He signs up with the Marines and after years of war, injuries, addiction and prison, he returns to his hometown where his troubled life continues, further alienating his parents.
When he reaches out to his younger brother, Gibson, in the hopes of having a relationship with him, his parents are not happy. On their first day out together the brothers encounter a prison bus from the prison where Jason was just released. Thus an extremely dangerous man from the prison uses his reach outside the prison to wreak havoc on the brothers.
This begins a very dark time, with murder, kidnapping, motorcycle gangs, and even gun running. Gibby will do anything to save his brother and Jason will try to protect his brother at all cost.
Loved the setting in the early seventies. Hard to remember that time when, if you made a phone call on the run, you had to hunt up a pay phone. The pages flew by....too fast actually! John Hart has scored a big win with this one!
