Wow. I'm already hooked on this book and dying to know where it goes. The First Look at this book makes me think it will hit home in a very real way for many. The Vietnam War seems, on one hand, like it was ages ago, and on the other hand, like it was very recent. For the people who served, and for the families they came home to, I know it has never really gone too far from their minds.
In my family, like so many others, 2 brothers (my father and my uncle) went to war. Both (fortunately) came home, but both had very different experiences - experiences that shaped them and, subsequently, their families futures. I have always wondered what my uncle was like before he left for the war and in the years following it (it's not something we discuss) but I can imagine him in Jason, which makes my emotional connection to this book strong and immediate.
I'm itching to know where this story goes and what becomes of Jason, Gibby, and their family.
