The Unwilling, by John Hart, examines family, loss, the tragedy and scars of war, and the way it all affects a seemingly picture perfect family.

At the height of the Vietnam War, the middle brother of the French family, Jason, returns from his most recent tour a changed man. He's colder, harder, and refuses to discuss what he saw. He soon falls down the path of drugs and is eventually sentenced to prison. Upon his release, he seeks out his youngest brother in an attempt to build a relationship with him. However, Jason's tumultuous past has put a strain between him and his entire family. His mother wishes Jason had taken the place of his twin, and the bullet that killed him. His father, a police officer, struggles with keeping balance between the son he desperately wishes he could help and his wife. His youngest brother, Gibby, struggles between getting to know his brother, and pleasing their overbearing, to the point of obsessive, mother.

Initially drawn by the cover, I think The Unwilling holds massive potential. I'm excited to see how it all unfolds for the characters, and how the plot will change the family as a whole. The family dynamic of the book is incredibly intriguing and I was immediately gripped! I am beyond excited the release of this book!
