I have to admit that I went into this First Look assuming this storyline just wasn't for me. Having experienced just a little of John Hart's writing style, I've had to re-evaluate this. Hart paints a distinct picture of a small Southern town post-Vietnam and the damage the war has wrought on the French family. You can really empathize with the struggle Gibby and his father experience as a result of how they should feel about Jason and his wayward ways and how they do feel. Strained familial relationships, murder, and wartime trauma means this book is one to look forward to.
