I could not put this book down. I will be honest and say that at first the Gullah dialect threw me and I did not want to continue to read. But I stayed the course and I am so happy that I did.
I did not know about this part of Harriet Tubman's history, her scouting for the Union army during the civil war.
I learned so much and my admiration for her grew beyond imagination.
She is such a powerful woman, a woman who had feelings and tried her best to free all of the slaves.
I absolutely loved that she had WHITE MEN listening to her...when no other woman would have held such sway.
I liked all of the characters in the book and would love to learn more about the white female doctor that was taking care of the "contraband".
