Thank you BookishFirst for my copy of The Tubman Command. In May 1863 Harriet Tubman, also known as Moses, was living in Beaufort, South Carolina. She was working as a spy for the Union Army. The book deals with her role in planning a raid to free hundreds of bondsmen and their families. Harriet Tubman and her role on The Underground Railroad is well known. Her importance as a spy seems to have been relegated to a small part in Civil War history. This book helps to educate the reader on that role. Elizabeth Cobbs does an excellent job in portraying Harriet Tubman as a multidimensional woman. The Tubman Command shows Moses not only as a brilliant
strategist but as a human being with hopes and needs. This would be an excellent film or mini series adaptation.
