Gripping AND Educational
Not usually being a reader of historical fiction, I must say this is the best work in that genre I have ever read. With the “Author’s Note” at the end to explain the bit of fictional license taken, I was completely captivated by the story of Harriet Tubman and her numerous feats of derring-do.
Since grade school social studies, I’ve known of Harriet Tubman and the Underground Railroad, but I was unaware of how much more she did to correct the wrongs of the Civil War and pre-Civil War era.
The epigrams that start each chapter were even enlightening, and the fictional relationship added between Samuel Heyward and Ms. Tubman added
a nice plot interest.
Well done, Elizabeth Cobbs! It pleases me to be writing this on International Women’s Day.
