I think the story of Harriet Tubman is an important part of American history, and it is crucial for each generation to know just how horrible life was for slaves (if they even survived the horrifying conditions while being shipped like inanimate cargo across the ocean.) Many textbooks provide little more than a mention of Tubman's name along with a few sentences about the Underground Railroad. There is no way for people to grasp the conditions of slavery in books like that. However, something just seemed to be missing for me in this book, THE TUBMAN COMMAND. Maybe I needed more pages to read to see how this book would be different from others I've read over the years; I honestly do not know. The cover design is attractive. Likewise, I appreciate the author's research, effort, and dedication to telling the story.
