Upon first looking at the cover illustration, I thought the transparent silhouette of the female figure contrasts a little with the actual image of the historical figure, Harriet Tubman. The female's coiffure and dress is traditional of middle and upper-class white and free black women during the nineteenth century. The image of the gun imprinted in the silhouette is accurate to Tubman's militaristic and abolitionist campaigns.

I think the title of the novel is simple yet hinting at the particular period of the Civil War in which Harriet had an active role. Before reading the synopsis of the novel, I wondered if the book was centered on her.

I would be very curious to know how the author approaches the life of Harriet Tubman in an adult novel. I don't know of other writers who have taken the charge of chronicling Harriet Tubman's life in novel form.
